Stuck in a food rut? This will help

We’ve all been there, you find a new recipe or easy-to-prep lunch and want to eat it every day. Fast forward two weeks and you suddenly can’t stand it anymore. Try one of these easy ideas to mix up your routine and help you stay inspired.

Try this!

1. Try a new-to-you ingredient: Build a meal around things you don’t normally cook with—maybe that’s lentils, tofu, cottage cheese, or other ZeroPoint® or low-Points® foods. You can get ideas in the What to Eat tab in our app; tap “Recipes,” then search by food. 2. Switch up your prep method: If you love your go-to ingredients, change how you make or use them. Used to sautéing? Break out the grill or air fryer or look for a stew or soup recipe. 3. Play around with flavors: Herbs, spices, and supporting ingredients can make standbys like chicken and veggies taste brand new. Take inspo from around the globe—try flavors from Greece, Thailand, China, or Mexico.

Let’s dive a little deeper…

Maybe you eat the same egg sandwich every morning, snack on the same yogurt parfait, or meal prep the same chicken bowl for lunch. Don’t get us wrong, having a set of nutritious go-tos is a tried-and-true way to stay on track. It puts healthy choices on autopilot and helps you avoid in-the-moment decisions that may get in the way of your goals.

But there can be a dark side to these routines: food ruts. Eating the same thing, even if you love it initially, can eventually get tiresome and leave you less excited and inspired to keep up the changes you’ve made. That’s why it’s helpful to mix in new ingredients and flavors. Doing so also gives you a chance to expand your roster of faves.

So while you should continue to lean on what works for you, switch things up once in a while: Pick one of the ideas above, then decide when you’re going to try it and what you’ll need to make it happen.
